Kendra had a couple free hours and wanted to play with makeup ideas, I wanted to try out some new techniques for lighting and editing head shots, Daelynn was available to model at a moment's notice. I had some cheesecloth left over from previous shoots and created an impromptu headpiece/garment for her. I think it worked out for not having a plan when we started.

I was asked to shoot a couple photos for Heritage Flight Museum's next calendar! Here are a few of the photos we took that day. The best part is that the models are employees of the museum posing with their favorite planes. Erika is a crew chief and mechanic while Michelle is an intern. I'll let you know when and where you can purchase the calendar when it comes out so you can support this amazing place.

I would never ask just anyone to pose with a tarantula because I would be afraid they'd hurt the delicate spider if they should have a moment of panic. I had seen a snapshot of Cameron with this one on her face so I knew she could handle it. His name is "Devon" and he's very fuzzy and sweet. We set up each shot so he wasn't too high from a surface if he fell and his owner was standing nearby. So much fun!

After Cat's babyshower we thought it would be fun to head out to Semiahmoo and take a few shots of her by the water. It sprinkled a little bit but other than that the day couldn't have been more perfect. Plus we had the whole place to ourselves!
Three days. Three shoots. One model.
The goal was to setup three very different shoots with the same model over three days in Vegas. The first day we did a darker night shoot at 2:00 a.m. in our condo. We were tired and delirious and it got a little goofy at the end.
The next day we trekked out to the desert just as the sun was about to go down. It was so beautiful but freezing. I had wrapped Kinsey in gauze and tulle and the icy wind was whipping it around like crazy. At one point in my haste I jogged backwards and tripped over some bushes, flinging my camera and favorite lens out of my hands and across the rocky terrain. Fortunately it was all okay and I didn't need my backup. I was a little bloody and bruised but it was totally worth it. Every couple minutes we rushed back to the running van and tried to warm up a little and then hopped out again to snap a few more.
Day three we decided to stay in our warm condo and did a more natural hair and makeup look. At one point I handed her a mound of tulle to hold in her lap and it looked like she was wearing a dress.
Although it was exhausting it was worth all the hard work. Thanks for all the fun, girls!

I thought it would be fun to plan a shootout where all the photographers had to wear wedding dresses. That way they could shoot and be shot. (BWAC: Bride With A Camera)
I still had my assistant Mark come and help move gear and heavy props since we were all pretty encumbered by tulle and satin. I gave him a couple new headshots for his efforts. My dress had been professionally cleaned and museum sealed in an archival box for the last nine years but it was worth busting it out for the occasion. It's been a busy April for so many but for the handful of us that were able to get together it was a blast. I hope we can do something like this again sometime!
(Yes, that's me with the gray wool socks and hiking boots. I said we had to all wear wedding dresses but made no rules about footwear. Haha!)
